The Experience

Since the African bush has so much to offer and it is impossible for you to come to South Africa without having seen the Big 5 (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and African buffalo), we will combine the best of the two worlds and visit both areas -big 5 and non big 5, by staying at two different luxurious accommodations with an intimate group size of 10 people. This is far more than a yoga retreat and far more than a safari.

The first accommodation is approximately 2 hours north of Johannesburg and is nestled between the sloping hills of the UNESCO Waterberg with mesmerizing streams and rock pools in the malaria free Waterberg region/Limpopo province. It is the ideal getaway for groups that want to comfortably or adventurously indulge themselves in nature.

The non Big 5 reserve allows you to walk around freely and to really absorb the nature surrounding by stepping foot in it. We will explore yoga in the bush, guided bush walks, mountain biking through the bush and jump into a refreshing rock pool. During game drives and bushwalks, their experienced and enthusiastic field guides will show us all the beauty that the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve has to offer. You will come across an abundant variety of flora and fauna and be treated to sightings of a large number of bird species, zebras, kudus, nyalas, impalas, giraffes, hartebeest, blesbok and much more.

Being situated in the Waterberg region it gives the venue the privilege of a wonderful river running through the reserve. This functions as a substantial source of water for the animals and additionally attracts the African clawless otter. The river is a place for many species to refresh – including us. In addition you will have enough time and space to unwind, to relax and to take in the surrounding beauty.

On the 5th day we drive to our second accommodation, a luxurious "glamping", tented camp looking out onto the Mongena Dam in a free roaming Big Five Game Reserve – just 40 minutes from Pretoria in Gauteng, in a malaria free area. The camp is situated within the 8500ha of Mongena Game Lodge and is part of the greater Dinokeng Game Reserve which spans 18500ha and is home to pristine bushveld, free roaming Big Five, abundant birdlife and diverse general plains game population.

Alongside the experience of guided big 5 safaris and mesmerizing sunset boat cruises you will hear the sounds of the bush whilst laying in your bed.

The Accommodation #1 (4 nights, non big 5 area)

The Deluxe twin Rooms are spacious and comfortable getaways positioned on their private open plains surrounded by the bush. The rooms are situated nearby the main lodge and common swimming pool. They provide a coffee station, a private terrace and en- suite bathroom with a lavish bathtub and outdoor shower.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinners can be enjoyed indoors next to a log fire or on their covered patio. We also have a choice of dining under the star-filled African Skies. In addition, house wines, local beers, and soft drinks are included.

Our yoga classes can take place either safely in the bush or by the pool overlooking the land.

The Accommodation #2 (3 nights, big 5 area)

The luxury Tented Camp has a total of 10 tents with twin beds and an en-suite bathroom, tea / coffee making facility as well as climate control air-conditioning and a mini safe. They are all looking out onto the Mongena Dam.

We can join an afternoon game drive on the day of arrival, a morning & afternoon game drive each day thereafter and a morning game drive on the day of departure. A sunset boat cruise which will replace one of the afternoon game drives is a magical experience and provides a different game viewing perspective.

Our Yoga classes can take place by the area around the swimming pool, the deck as well as the upstairs lounge area- where we have a 360 view over the dam.

Q&A

What will the weather be like in March? â€‹

The weather will be slightly transitioning from their summer into late summer/autumn which is lovely for us as we are coming from our winter and can enjoy the first not too hot sun rays again. It can be anything between 16 and 27 degrees. Slighty hotter in the bush.

Do the camps have their own water supply and generators?

Yes, absolutely, they will turn it on in case of loadshedding.

How about Malaria prophylaxis?

Please consult your GP about Malaria prophylaxis, we will be travelling in Malaria free areas, nevertheless it is advised to consult your GP.

Will there be Aerial Yoga?

Aerial Yoga won't be on the daily schedule as I don't have the chance to hang the appartus but I will bring one or two Airo-belts (small yoga belt) so you don't have to miss out of the sensation of hanging upside down ;-)

I'd like to book an onward flight to travel to another part of Africa (highly recommended!) What are the check in and check out times/ when are we travelling from and to Johannesburg airport? (OR TAMBO INTERNATIONAL)

It will take us around +- 4 hours from the airport to our first accommodation with a stop for refreshments and a little break on the way. It is recommended to arrive in Johannesburg before 11 am on Sunday the 3rd March.

We will check out by 10 am from our second accommodation on the 10th March and need approximately 2 hrs back to the airport, depending on the traffic.

Please email me if none of these times work for you.

50-Hrs Aerial Yoga Teacher Training in London

Leave the world behind and fly high on this 4 day Aerial yoga teacher training

New dates for 2024 will be released soon!

Congratulations again from the bottom of my heart to 5 great participants who have successfully completed their aerial teacher training in February 2023! They have also passed the first baptism of fire and are successfully teaching aerial yoga between London and Manchester. What an accomplishment!
If you are also interested in aerial training to expand your niche, the next 50 (!) Hours aerial teacher training is coming up this year! Josh from UK Yoga Collective and I are trying to find a suitable time slot in the joint schedule.

And why 50 hours? Because we just want to give you more time to develop your own trainer voice.

Become an Aerial Yoga Teacher

Aerial yoga is a distinctive way of practising the yoga postures you’re already used to practising on the mat. Through the addition of an aerial belt or hammock, you can bring a sense of fun and wonder to your classes that encourages your students to play through their practice. Teaching and practising aerial yoga gives yogis an invigorating sense of self-confidence and invokes a level of focus that grounds them in the present moment.

Develop a Unique Skill

As yoga studios look to diversify their offerings, aerial yoga is becoming more and more common. By training to become an aerial yoga teacher you can be at the head of this curve and assist studios in bringing this unique and challenging practice to greater audiences. Aerial yoga is in such high demand since it is such a unique form or exercise with various health benefits that are specific to inversion practices.

Gain a New Perspective on Yoga

The support of the hammock allows students to explore inversion postures in ways that can’t be done in a traditional class, but that can change the way students practice on a yoga mat. By suspending students bodies, they can get used to the feeling of being upside down and build the relationship between the hands and the floor, while also reducing the ‘fear factor’ associated with these poses.

Share The Joy of Going Upside Down

One of the main reasons to teach and practice aerial yoga is that its fun! You will only find a handful of people who don’t want to try aerial yoga or who aren’t hooked straight after the first class. As an emerging discipline, an aerial yoga teacher training will also place you in the position to be an ambassador for the style and bring it to new studios and students.
